LAKE NAIVASHA & HELL’S GATE NATIONAL PARK

Category: Tag:

Even if you only have a day free in Nairobi, you can escape the city and discover some spectacular birds at Lake Naivasha and enjoy a boat ride as you watch hippos and other animals.

Departure: 7:00 a.m

You will be picked up from your Hotel in Nairobi with an experienced English-speaking driver and depart to Naivasha on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. You will stop shortly at the viewpoint to have a panoramic view of The Rift Valley and its Escarpments. Then proceed with a drive to Hell’s Gate National Park, which lies south of Lake Naivasha – northwest of Nairobi, for a game viewing drive.

The Park is named after a narrow break in the cliffs, once a tributary of a prehistoric lake that fed early humans in the Rift Valley. It is a small National Park, known for its wide variety of wildlife and its scenery. This includes the Fischer’s Tower and Central Tower columns and Hell’s Gate Gorge.

The Park is also home to five geothermal power stations at Olkaria. There are also three basic campsites and a Maasai Cultural Center, providing education about the Maasai tribe’s culture and traditions. There is a wide variety of wildlife in the Park, though few: including lions, leopards, and antelopes.

After game viewing, drive to Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge for lunch. Then visit Lake Naivasha for a 1-hour boat ride. While on the boat ride, enjoy bird watching, eagle feeding, and hippo viewing. Once your boat ride comes to an end, return to the dock. Begin the drive to Nairobi for a 6:00 pm arrival and get dropped off at the hotel or residency within the City.
